Now Valentines usually means soppy n sweet and lots of red and pink - but  - well you should know me by now - I like to keep things a little bit different! Green, grey and blue are my colour crushes at the moment, each baby trimmed with snippets of fabric I have been coveting for some time ( just waiting for the right doll to claim them!)
I have chosen some pretty names for them too, all of which mean "Love".

Each will be available to adopt tomorrow at noon (gmt) in my etsy shop ready to share lots of love and cuddles in time for Valentines day!
I will also have available three custom slots for dolls to be made in June, these will be my last custom slots for  a little while as my family and I are planning on moving home later this year, as soon as we are settled into a new place I will open up the order book once more :)

Winters Teether babies

Well it may be raining outside ( it seems to have been raining for weeks!) but these little ones are snugly and warm indoors! I do love how each little face emerges so different from the last,
despite each beginning life as the same size little ball of wool,
somehow their individual natures unfold just the same!

This series of teether dolls I have been inspired by the colours of Devon in winter, the fresh evergreens, stormy seas and hazy sunrises, every season has its beauty, but I suppose I enjoy the quietness, the stillness of winter.

These little loves will be available to adopt via my etsy shop tomorrow at noon.

January Babies

My goodness what a busy time it has been! Over Christmas I told myself I would take a little break from doll making, just time to enjoy relaxing with family, and dream of future dolls, but well you know I simply couldn't do that! So over these long dark winters nights I have been working on a brand new style of doll, may I introduce my true baby dolls!

I have chosen to make these in three sizes, 10 inch, 14 inch and newborn size 19inch.
Each size is gently weighted to give a real baby feel, though are still light enough to be easily carried around by a child. Arms legs and head are moveable and hold their position thanks to their joints so they can pose like real babies too, and even sit unaided.

For babies hair I have chosen to use mohair fabric, or a crocheted mohair cap, which can be brushed out and styled into little bunches to give a girlish look

Each of my babies is dressed in a little cotton nappy which fastens with poppers, a cotton envelope t shirt ( I re-size new shop bought baby t shirts and dye by hand if needs be ) and a knitted hat and shorts set. Finally with a little birth tag anklet and pure woolen blanket they are ready to be adopted!

It has been a true delight to create this new pattern, from the gentle curves of their little limbs, to their delicate embroidered eyelashes, there is something just so magical about a new baby!

This new style of doll with replace my button jointed dolls as i seek to further hone my craft, custom requests for these style of dolls are quite welcome, my order book for June will open on Feb 1st,
Thanks for stopping by, With love Scarlett xxx

Pearl - an auction doll to celebrate Tara

Pearl is a little doll I made last year - she has been sat quietly in my studio awaiting  a new mama, when just recently I heard about this amazing cause, and knew that with her caring heart - this was her true calling. Many many artisans, crafters and fellow doll makers have teamed together to provide items to donate for the Celebrating Tara auction ( link here )
Hoping to raise money for a family in desperate need. The proposed date is February 14th-16th.
Anyway - here is a little more on dear Pearl :)

She is a 14 inch ladybird doll studio doll, she is an older style of doll with button joints to give her posable arms and legs. She has the softest pale blue tibetan lamb hair, deep brown eyes and rosy little cheeks.
Pearl wears a pair of teal cotton bloomers, a lined bird print tunic which fastens with concealed sewn in snaps, a brown envelope neck t shirt a pair of cotton knit mary janes and a pure wool knitted winters hat. Due to her fine hair and button joints she is recommended for a child over 5 years, for gentle playtime.
After her auction closes I will ship free to anywhere in the world, as a thank you for your kind bids.
I do hope that together we can raise some much needed funds for a very worthy cause

Little Pru

Some dolls heart and soul shine through from the earliest moments of creation, Pru is one such doll! As I wound the wool to form her little face, her cheeks puffed out in a smile I knew we would soon see! Sure enough smiling eyes and cheery disposition emerged and baby Prudence was born.
Prudence is a 12 inch doll and has pose able arms and legs which makes her great fun for playtime, she sits alone or stands with a little support.

Pru has a reversible Cath Kidston fabric dress, linen bloomers with pink elastic waist and legs, a rosebud hair pin and little pair of felt slippers, with beaded flowers on the toe.

She is looking forward to meeting her new family in Cornwall soon!
